Don't fall in love, it can scare.
Stephen Kings new shining sequel hits shelves to day. In a recent interview King said that he had matured as an author, and he didn't scare by tricks, but by making you fall in love with the characters. Hold on i know what you're thinking love can make you scared, but think about it, if you care deeply for a character then you will fear for them in dangerous situations. This pushes horror from just the grimy gritty scare to a fear roller coaster.

These are not the films you are looking for.
What Books have been made into top tier films, Lord of the rings comes to mind, as does Schindler's list, and my personal favorite Apocalypse now. But not all movies have had such success i.e. Earagon. But films are a different view into a novel, its the directors and screenwriters, instead of yours. But film is also a different art form, then words on a page. And both art forms have surpassed the standards we set for them time and time again. But a book to movie adaptation has to be true to the book, and true to the fans to succeed.
