fashionably fabulous
Costuming is an integral part of film, with out appropriate clothing the continuity of the film would be thrown in the trash. In 2001 a space odyssey the costuming had to be so thought out, because of the 30 some years jump in time, the costumes had to look futuristic but still simple. This comes through for the space suits, while the could have acquired actually astronaut clothing, they decided to make their own sleeker version. This makes the film more then just real, it makes it seem even more like the future. Another example of great costuming would be the english production of frankenstien. The frankenstien monster has massive scars and stitches all over his body, which show the way he was assembled. The makeup and costuming work took hours to do, but the lasting effect of seeing such a masterpiece leaves you with the impression, that the actor is actually the monster.
Im, sorry dave. Im afraid i cant put a subject on this post.
After watching the movie 2001 a space odyssey, i have come to this conclusion, i was drugged for the last 15 minutes. Besides that fact, the film was astonishingly amazing, and visual stunning for a film made in 1968. The film begins with the dawn of man, as man monkeys around for a time, he comes across a giant stone or monolith as they call it. Once man touches this alien space rock, he gains intelligence. Fast forward millions of years and another monolith is found on the moon. When man touches this monolith a signal is sent to jupiter. This prompts man to send a space crew to jupiter. The crew of 5 along with a super computer the hal-9000, is on their way to jupiter when the computer malfunctions. Hal goes and kills off all of the crew except one. This crew man, dave disconnects hal, and then continues on his voyage alone. While entering Jupiter's orbit, dave is transported through space. What infuses is almost a drug infused space journey. At the end of this journey, dave ends up in a hotel "ish" room. Though this room is an alien zoo, dave then spends the rest of his life in the hotel. When he dies he is reborn as a star child, looking at the earth with wide open eyes, signifying that this new universe age of man has begun.
